Prescription for Instant Happiness

Between the magic of online shopping and the mind-blowing size of box stores, you can buy almost anything these days — except happiness. Happiness is something only you can create from within, but there are some things you can do to help you feel happier. We have a couple of ideas for things you can do right now to instantly increase your happiness.  These methods aren’t overly complicated and they aren’t expensive, so why not give them a try today and see how you feel?

Family fishing

Get a Dose of Nature

Rejoice! You live in Colorado, one of the most gorgeous places on earth. Spending time outside in nature is a proven happiness booster. Take a stroll, smell the flowers or simply sit on a rock by a stream. Let the fresh air and green space work its magic. No time to head outside? Open your window shades. Sunshine can brighten your outlook, especially if you get a dose early in the morning.

Spending time with animals can also add instant joy to your life. Take a dog for a walk or give a cat a belly rub. Remember, they don’t have to be your dog or cat, visit a family member or friend and reap the benefits of their pets!

Make Connections

Do something nice for someone. If you do it on a regular basis, you’ll probably even smile more. Studies have shown that people who volunteer are likelier to be happier than those who don't, regardless of how much money they make.

Reframe what your mother said about talking to strangers. Chatting with someone new, learning a different game or going somewhere you’ve never been can help lift your mood. People who do new things are happier than people who stick to their regular old routine.
