Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP) Breast Pump Benefits

Breast feeding supports the health of both your baby and you. It can help your baby grow strong and healthy, with benefits that can last a lifetime. 

If you are pregnant or have recently had a baby, you may qualify to receive a breast pump as part of your DHMP health coverage.


Get your Breast Pump at No Cost

Members of Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP) Elevate Health Plans (Exchange and CO Option) and DHHA Employer Plans can receive one breast pump at no cost after each pregnancy. This benefit is provided through our preferred vendor, Bili Blanket Baby. Getting your pump is simple.

You can choose one of the following breast pumps:

  • Medela Pump In Style® Pro Breast Pump
  • Medela Harmony Manual Breast Pump

How to Get Your Breast Pump

Follow these easy steps:

  • You must be at least 28 weeks pregnant.
  • Ask your doctor to submit a breast pump order. Your doctor must submit the breast pump order to Bili Blanket Baby.

  • Place your order online.
  • Your breast pump will be shipped directly to your home by Bili Blanket Baby.
  • Bili Blanket Baby will bill your health insurance for you.
     

FAQ

Will the breast pump count towards the DME benefit?
No, the breast pump is its own benefit.

Can I still get a breast pump at DHHA hospital? 
No, you should order your request through our preferred vendor, Bili Blanket Baby.

Breast pumps are a covered benefit for all Colorado Medicaid enrollees. Both manual and double-electric breastfeeding pumps are now covered as early as 28 weeks into pregnancy or at any time during the postpartum period.

A Prior Authorization is NOT Required When

A Prior Authorization IS Required When

  • Vendor is not a Preferred Vendor.
  • Breast pump is over $500.
  • Rented (RR) modifier.

To Get a Breast Pump

  • You must be at or beyond 28 weeks of pregnancy or at any time during the postpartum period.
  • Your doctor must submit an order for the breast pump directly to vendor.

Lactation Support Services

  • Denver Health (DH) offers classes to help moms prepare for breastfeeding prior to delivery.
  • Denver Health also offers lactation support in the hospital to help mom and baby shortly after birth. Post discharge, breastfeeding support and education services are available through the Denver Health Women, Infants and Children program which has offices at several locations in Denver.

Additional Lactation Support

  • Our program also covers essential lactation support services, including breast pump coverage, with added support through Denver Health and community resources.
  • Denver Health offers classes, in-hospital support, post-discharge education, and specialized lactation clinics. Community support is also available through La Leche League and the myStrength app.

  • Ask your doctor to submit a breast pump order directly to a preferred vendor.

Prior Authorization Is NOT Required When

  • The breast pump is under $500.
  • The pump is purchased (NU modifier).

Prior Authorization IS Required When

  • Breast pump is over $500.
  • The pump is rented (RR modifier).
