Simple Steps You Can Take to Make Getting Care Easier

Getting care when you need it can be confusing. It's important to take steps now to make sure you have the care team in place for those moments when you need health care. Take the time now to get your health care resources set up, so that getting care when you need it is a simpler, faster process.

Don't wait until you need care to schedule this first appointment. The first provider visit is about establishing care. At this visit, you and your primary care provider (PCP) will set up your health care records and discuss your health goals and concerns. This begins the care relationship that will help you get care later on, if you need it.

After you have established care, be sure to schedule your preventive care visits each year with your PCP. It’s a good idea for you to put a reminder on your calendar to schedule your no-cost preventive appointment each year. This is the time to talk to your PCP about chronic issues, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. You and your PCP can develop a plan that supports your health and well-being and fits your lifestyle. At this appointment, you and your PCP will make sure you’re up to date on your all your preventive care, including:

  • Immunizations
  • Cancer screenings
  • Prenatal visits
  • Well-child visits
  • Well-woman exams

It is important to understand the difference between an annual preventive care visit and a regular PCP Visit. Any new issues or concerns will be handled in a regular PCP visit. There may be a charge for a PCP visit, depending on your DHMP plan. See your member handbook for more information. You can also contact Health Plan Services to help you determine if your visit is preventive or if it is a regular PCP visit.

Your plan also has access to national network pharmacies. See the pharmacy page for your plan and look for the Online Formulary and Pharmacy Directory link to do a pharmacy search.

The online MedImpact pharmacy portal is where you can log in to view your pharmacy claims, print tax documents, use search tools to find a pharmacy or check the price of a drug and get information on drug side effects.
